Liposuction

What is liposuction?

Liposuction is a surgical procedure that removes fatty deposits from the body via a probe or "cannula" utilizing a vacuum technique.

Who is a candidate for liposuction plastic surgery?

In general, liposuction plastic surgery is performed on healthy men or women of normal body weight who have localized deposits of excess fat that make certain areas appear disproportionately large. As we get older the elasticity of the skin diminishes; therefore, patients with good skin elasticity will achieve the smoothest contour after fat is removed.

What areas of the body can be liposuctioned?

The most common areas of concern are the abdomen and thighs. However, liposuction can be performed on the neck, upper arms, chest area, back, hips, buttocks, knees and calves as well.

Can I have more than one area done at the same time?

Liposuction can be performed on several areas of the body at the same time, as long as you understand the increased risk and your plastic surgeon feels it is a safe option for you.

Will liposuction surgery get rid of cellulite?

We do not recommend liposuction as an effective treatment for cellulite.

Will I have scars from liposuction plastic surgery?

One or more small incisions are used. Depending on your individual healing, the scars should be faintly visible after approximately six to eight months.

How long will I wear a compression garment following liposuction plastic surgery?

A compression garment is usually worn for the first four to six weeks following liposuction surgery to minimize your swelling and allow areas to settle down more evenly.
